NY Times article about Darger

So help me out here. This has been explained to me before, but I just want to check again.

Darger is a registered baptized member of the LDS church.

But his parents, as polygamists are not.

Is this correct?

didn't Darger get baptized after he left home? As far as I know, no polygamists are registered members.

If you saw the finale of Big Love, this story might be of interest. It's likely that Joe Darger is somehow related to the mother in this story.
