I haven't read the article, but if it's a rivalry, it must be a gutter rivalry.

Not really. Baseball is unique in that some of the best teams are not traditional powers and many rivalries are rather strange. For instance, one of the biggest rivals we had at Marist was Mississippi State. I'm not sure how it came to be, but it was rather heated and still is today.

BYU and UVU are about equal in terms of talent when it comes to baseball. The campuses are very close and they recruit the same kids.
