Does anyone here know if it's normal to have to add a quart or so of oil every 5K for a 330i? The people at the dealership claim that it is, but I don't always trust that those people know what they're talking about.

If you are having your oil changed regularly every 3k miles then no it is not. However if you are not changing it regularly it is fairly normal.

BMW's use fully synthetic oil, and are only supposed to need an oil change ever 12K.

In that case I have no idea.

But Google tells me that it is normal to add a quart every 2000-2500 miles. So it seems like you are doing ok at 5k miles.

Well I don't. I change it about every 7K, although I read something online today about other people taking it in every 5K.

Some cars only require an annual oil change.

I only do my RV once a year. Granted it's diesel and doesnt' get driven that much. But that's probably still a 10K or so interval.
