When I am fit, I can hang with the 5s on the group ride. But no way I can hang with the 4s and 3s.

But now that I have 5000 base miles, I'm expecting wings to sprout.

Right now, I am lucky to hang with a decent recreational cyclist and fat mountain bikers.

I don't know about that. I didn't take the training wheels off my first bike until I was 15 years old and had to learn all over again for this bike. "Like riding a bike" is a lie, as far as I'm concerned.
