"Don't Stop Believing" - Styx, or was it Journey, or was it Foreigner, . . . .

I do like Fogelberg. Home Free was a magic album.

Also, I have intentionally left the Beatles off, simply because I think they are better than all these other bands put together. But here are some of mine in no order: The Who - My Generation Van Mo - Brown Eyed Girl, Moondance Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama, Free Bird Led Zep - Stairway, Immigrant Song The Kinks - Lola Clapton/Derek -Layla The Animals - House of the Rising Sun Creedence - Bad Moon Rising, Down on the Corner, Fortunate Son Steppenwolf - Born to be Wild Stones - Paint it Black, Brown Sugar 3 Dog Night - Joy to the World Jimi - Purple Haze, Foxy man, this list could get really, really long. I didnt include any singles from mid-to-late 70s hits fro Foreigner, Yes, ELO, The Eagles, etc etc... This is a fun thread, though. I think I am going to take everyone's suggestions and make an ultimate classic rock playlist on itunes.

Would it surprise anyone to know that I have been in bands that have covered almost every song on the list (no moon dance or immigrant song)? Some of the covers maybe not so good, but man were we earnest.

Among the more obscure, I'd include Spirit's "I Got a Line On You" and The Byrd's "I'll Probably Feel a Whole Lot Better." This thread has inspired me to update my iPod playlist. |

Good additions. Also, we should add the most unlikely name for an artist that had a hit: Norman Greenbaum's Spirit in the Sky.

Upon further reflection, can anyone name a better song that includes a kazoo riff than Hendrix's Crosstown Traffic?
A good friend in high school composed "Moonlight O'er Milpitas" that our stage band performed in faux tribute to a neighboring burg. The trumpet section stood and performed the bridge section with kazoos. Other than that possible exception, though, I think Hendrix wins. |
