Default One of my guilty pleasures..

is watching drum line competitions. Take a look at this at a 2006 competition in Switzerland:

Watching that clip reminded me of last week's episode of The Office where Oscar is commenting on 'The Finer Things Club' to which he belongs. He says, "Other than having sex with men, The Finer Things Club is probably the gayest thing I do."

I'm not sure why watching a drum line competition reminds me of that comment, but I do know that I now have a sudden urge to re-decorate my room.

Yep. My next door neighbors have never been happy that my family bought the house and moved into the neighborhood, so they really hate that I watch these competitions and turn the volume up to 11.

I started to watch that on one of those Encore channels and could only take it for about 20 minutes. If it had been 90 minutes of nothing but drum lines, I would have watched it.

My neighbor is the drumline coach/instructor for BYU's marching band. Funny thing is, he is a Ute (Ute gear, Ute license plate, etc.)

When I first saw him at a BYU game, I told him I would keep his secret safe. He laughed and said everyone already knows. It's wierd to see him wear Ute gear when he's at home and BYU gear when he's on the job. I suppose that for a professional percussionist a steady gig at your alma mater's rival is better than no gig at all.

By the way, did you know that the BYU drumline has one of only two sets of Yamaha natural finish drums in the country? I just read that on Saturday in the game program.
