Maybe that's the point. Why do we have a current prophet? Would the current prophet say the same thing? If not, then it doesn't really belong in the book, does it?

I'm not arguing for keeping it.

Am I the only one who thinks Mike is making this story up? I don't really want to be an a-hole here, but Mike's been hitting this obscure quote from the manual for several weeks, and then, coincidentally enough, he happens to attend a lesson in which this was taught? In thirty years in the Church, I've never heard this quote, and I'd guess that most of us here haven't either.

Sorry, I don't buy it.

I heard it in the seventies, seen it in the manuals, but notice our recent instructors ignore the quote and don't teach it.

However, Mike resides in an urban ward where leadership may be uninitiated and have not really learned you don't have to teach everything in the manuals, but take them literally.

So I can see it happening in certain areas and that's why it should be removed to avoid misfocusing on false issues.

No you're not the only one; hence my comments about short buses and Quixote.

An actuary is a professional who can solve a problem you didn't know you had in a way that you can't understand.

You have never noticed that he has a ward story for every topic of discussion?

Pay attention to his posts. You will notice this trend very quickly....daily, in fact.

It would be cool to live in his ward because so many exciting things happen there.

Which helps you generate good revenue and ensures that said revenue is also recurring.

I've heard a similar anti-actuarial joke......an actuary uses statistics the same way a drunk uses a lamppost: for support, not illumination.

I love anti-actuarial humor.

I predict that within the next 3 months he will "experience" a story that involves a member carrying a concealed weapon at church that saves the lives of untold dozens from some crazed mullah zealot who is upset with a Latino and African-American teen couple that refused to heed the counsel of SWK.
