I really don't think that's what he's saying. We "evil free-thinkers" figure things out through other means and point out contradictions between religion and reality. At some time in the future, religion generally catches up. That doesn't make us prophets.

You didn't make it clear as a bell that the fantastical was relating to the story, or what part of the story you contend is fantastical. It's even possible for a person in a 24 foot Falmouth Cutter to make the journey with just another person. You clearly have very little if any sailing knowledge.
