This subject matter isn't very interesting. And as an aside, the mission was the only time before or since, when sex wasn't a topic of interest. Basically, because I knew it wasn't ever going to happen, through mind exercises it became easy not to contemplate.

So I don't really understand the reason for the interest. It appears there is a divergence of thought on the subject, but as 71 put, you just don't care what another person is doing.

I disagree that it isn't interesting.

Because there is a fundamental question here:

Is there something to be gained in purposefully not masturbating?

Obviously some on here say "no". Others say "yes."

Disengaging sexuality during a time of celibacy and charitable service is probably something gained. Now, I believe sexuality can enhance spirituality in the bonds of marriage, but outside marriage it might be fun but it doesn't enhance spirituality.

If one takes a stoic or ascetic view of things, self-denial to a point is valuable.


Here is a more intersting point, how many of those who served missions were able to completely shut out of their minds, sexuality during missions?

I believe I was reasonably successful in this regard during that time frame. Not during any other time frame, but through rigorous mental exercise, I was able to avoid thinking of it. How many others can lay claim to that?
