Good question Babs. If BYU evaporated, the most obnoxious segment of the Ute fan base would similarly disappear. I'd definitely go with the Utes. All the good in-state players would go there and they'd have even more LDS talent, basically BYU-lite. I'm from Utah and at my core I'm a hometown guy.

That is very true. Notre Dame was absolutely awesome in the way they treated us when we went to visit in 2005. We absolutely got our asses handed to us, and maybe that is why they were so grateful, but they were very polite before, after, heck, even during the game.

While some of their advantages make them an easy enemy, their hospitality sure makes them easy to like.

This is probably what I would say too. I wouldn't have the same passion for anyone new though and over time lose interest in the sport. I'm die hard BYU and can't imagine college football or basketball or my life without it.
