I don't know if women who regularly post on an internet sports (kind of) board are typical of female consumers as a whole (absolutely no offense intended to anyone).

Having said that, my wife, who never posts on any message board, has expressed no interest in Mamma Mia (on in Batman, for what it's worth).

This site has the top five at

1. Spiderman 3 2007, 151
2. Pirates 2 2006, 136
3. Shrek 3 2007, 122
4. Spiderman 2002, 115
5. Pirates 3 2007, 115

also
10. Indiana Jones 2008, 100
11. Iron Man 2008, 99

Economy's down but you have two movies up there high in 2008 already. Batman's going to beat them handily.

I'm going to go with 130.
It is a sad commentary on our society that two of those awful Pirates movies are on that list.

Until this was mentioned, I had no idea a movie on Mama Mia was even in circulation.

I will say that I don't think that it will top Spidey 3, partly because none of those top five opened against another movie. They were the only thing going that weekend. That said, I am becoming more convinced that those who are predicting Mama Mia to do $25M this weekend are off a good 7-10M. I think that Batman will suck all the air out of it.
I think part of that high predicted take is actually factoring in spill-over from those who want to see The Bat but are shut out due to sellouts.

I could see Mamma Mia doing $15M or so, maybe $20M. But would not be shocked to see it do less than $10M. People dig ABBA Gold and cannot get enough of it. How many times can they repackage that collection? The play is basically the entire ABBA Gold disc, save 1 or 2 songs.

Yeah, it may be a close call there. I was literally trying to think what my gay brother (who I know likes Mama Mia) would make his first choice, and I actually think he'd go with Batman. Men in tight clothes, and fair, tragic Heath of Brokeback fame. He'll see both, though.

My wife is excited to watch a documentary on women's basketball.

"Honey, what did you rent?"

"A documentary about a women's basketball team."

"Do we have any good books?"

Obviously a faulty list; they don't have Aquaman ranked #1
