the queen motherof all dirty words
It's a cold and rainy day here and I checked out A Christmas Story from the library. I saw this movie for the first time when I was 7 or 8 and loved it. I haven't seen in probably 10 years and would like to watch it after school with my 7-year-old son. The problem--unlike me at 7--my son has not yet learned the F-dash-dash-dash word and I am not ready for him to know it yet.
What do you think? Should I watch it anyway and hope he doesn't ask what Ralphie says instead of fudge? Lie and tell him the F-dash-dash-dash word is fart? Ideas?

You're like one of those parents who thinks his kid has never heard the F-word when in fact her kid is having regular sex.

If he'd heard it, he'd say it. Trust me.

I still remember the first time I used this word in front of my parents.
Ah, the memories. |

We watched the movie and he liked it--particularly the tongue to the flagpole scene. He asked me about the F-dash-dash-dash word, but I just said that it was a word I didn't want to say. Then he got distracted with the rest of the movie and didn't press me any further (to my relief).

The F-dash-dash-dash word didn't enter my repertoire until I was introduced to golf.
I'll never forget as a teenager when I was letting loose at a high volume after I chunked my second shot in a row, when I looked up and saw my Stake President twenty yards away looking at me in a cart. I convinced myself that he didn't hear me. But he had to -- the freaking canyon walls heard me, and they told each other what I said.

But assuming he attends school, I agree that he has probably already heard it. Any trouble with the lamp scene? The entire neighborhood was turned on! |

If he's heard the F-word at school, he hasn't dropped it at home or asked about it. While I am sure a lot of the kids in his class know it, I would hope they are not casually throwing it out on the playground... "Hey, you want to play F-in' tag?" "F-yeah, then let's go down the F-in' slide."
