I see a symbolic importance, knowing that species develop and procreate together, each usually with a mate of opposite sex. To me, it's a representation of the joinder of male and female, not a depiction of the scientific process used to populate the earth.

Indeed. It goes far beyond a "translation error".

It's a magnificent allegory on the meaning of life. Phrases can have many meanings. The symbolism is as deep as you can dig. There is a reason why this stuff is in the temple, where the mysteries of godliness are to be revealed. -stuff we weren't prepared to understand primary, which is where you learn about the genesis story.

It could mean an awful lot of things besides only llamas getting it on with llamas. What do the plants represent? What do the animals? What does it mean for them to multiply? Maybe the animals are a representation of a certain part of mankind, and that component increases. What is the symbolism in the animals and plants being able to reproduce before the human could?

Undoubtedly, God created life in stages, most of which, if not all, pre-dates mankind. The question revolves around whether or not man is the eventual offspring of single-celled life or whether or not life forms are more limited in their range of evolutionary possibilities. Are the scriptures written to give us science lessons or for moral and spiritual instruction? If you conclude as I do, that they are never designed for scientific purposes, then you should conclude that the details of scientific processes may not be exact or even correct, as it is perfectly possible to simply use an analogy to teach a spiritual point. So what is the spiritual purpose, or purposes of Genesis creation account?

Nor do I as a nonscientist, attorney, with nothing in science but an unfettered opinion.
