Default Is Dave Checketts crazy?

http://www.sltrib.com/ci_5806650

Or is Rocky? Or both?

I don't know how you get to the end of a long negotiation like they did and have absolutely no idea what was supposed to be done with $7.5 million! That is a lot of money. You would sure think the details would have been clear to both sides.

I get the feeling Checketts was trying to change the terms at the last minute because that portion of the deal was inexplicably not reduced to writing. If so, shame on him. I always had the impression from reading articles in the newspaper that the money was a donation to the city and nothing more.

Did anyone else read articles on the issue and come away with a different impression?

Although it kills me to do so, I'm siding with Checketts on this. Anderson is a textbook politician in that he will do and say anything to benefit him.

I don't disagree with how you portray Anderson, but I think the evidence is pretty strongly on his side in this one, at least what was revealed publicly.

Rocky is an asshole extraordinaire.

I personally know 3 people who've worked for him and they say in their careers they've never worked for anyone more scheming, dishonest and mean to his employees than Rocky Anderson. And all 3 of these people are died in the wool democrats.

I've never known anyone who's worked for David Checketts, but he seems like a bit of a schyster himself.

Hard to tell who to side with in this one. I'm an avowed anti-Rocky but I'm no big fan of Checketts either (I was a season ticket holder the first two years but after some correspondence I had with RSL executives I decided not to renew my tickets this year).

As much as it pains me I'm going to side with Rocky on this one based on the comments from the state legislator who said that the state had no idea there were terms attached to the 7.5M.

Rocky and Dave had negotiated the terms of the agreement two years ago but nothing was put in writing because Dave had no idea if the team was still going to be in Utah.

Fast forward 2 years, the budget for the soccer complex (one that is partly funded by SLC tax payer money, no TRT tax, this is property tax) doubled while the size of the project was cut in half.

Dave sent the letter to Rocky to remind him what was discussed earlier and that they want to make sure before 7.5 million is donated/invested/given that they work out the kinks of this ballooning budget.

Rocky goes to the press and whines, the press (the kings of missinformation) again run with one sided stories. Dave has the press conference calling out Rocky for his lies, and calls out the press for not reporting all the facts.

He then gives the 7.5 million, no strings attached (as an FU to Rocky) meaning now this complex will no longer become the RSL/Real Madrid complex it was going to be. Dave no longer has to build that academy in SLC.

I side with Dave, the proof backs him up. I also try to make it a point never to side with Rocky (Anderson, not Balboa).
