Default 80s party

SIRS and I are having a few friends over for an 80s party. What films should I have going?

Below is my entire catalogue of 80s films (Even the bad ones! And I'm strictly keeping things in the 80s. Masterpieces like Meatballs (1979) are out of bounds.)

What might you go with if you could only pick 2?

9 to 5
A Fish Called Wanda
Airplane!
An Officer and a Gentleman
Back to the Future (and sequels)
The Beastmaster
Blade Runner
The Burbs
Clash of the Titans
Cloak & Dagger
Cocoon
The Day After
The Empire Strikes Back
Flash Gordon
Footloose
For Your Eyes Only
Ghostbusters (and sequel)
Goonies
Hannah and Her Sisters
Hoosiers
Indiana Jones (and first two sequels)
Jaws III
The Karate Kid (and II)
Krull
License to Kill
The Living Daylights
My Blue Heaven
Mr. Mom
National Lampoon's Vacation
Never Say Never Again
Octopussy
The Pirates of Penzance
Poltergeist
The Princess Bride
Radio Days
Red Dawn
Return of the Jedi
Rocky III and IV
Roxanne
Star Trek II III IV V
Superman II
Talk Radio
Top Gun
Urban Cowboy
V--The Final Battle
War Games

I would go with:

1. An Officer and a Genteman - classic.

2. Pretty in Pink

Classic John Hughes that pretty much sums up an era of both the US and filmaking at that time. It will also appeal to the chicks, assuming this isn't a party for straight men. The fact that you have John Hughes films is really a travesty. No Ferris Bueller's Day Off? What's wrong with you?

For a party, I think The Burbs and Goonies playing would be good.

John Hughes and Ferris are on my wish list. I've actually put more time into building up my 70s films.

You're right, though. There is no excuse!

Just like the guys with big VHS film collections are silly.

Agree with you, but what do you do when you want to build up a personal movie collection? I just purchased The Mission and Into Great Silence in DVD, but like with every DVD I buy, there's a small regret there b/c I wonder if they'll be obsolete in a few years, and if not obsolete, then just so second rate there'll be no comparison.

If I may suggest, an 80's party is boring and predictable. An Australian Invasion 80's party would make you the coolest kid on the block. To that end you must play:

Crocodile Dundee
Young Einstein
The Man From Snowy River
and last but not least: BMX Bandits.

Blu-ray only came out in June 2006, so I don't know what you mean by asking if I'm still in 2001.

Oh, but you probably mean Net-flix, etc. Still not enough convenience for me -- I want it at my fingertips. But oh, you say, I can now order movies on demand through my X-box or whatever. But I like the physicality of movies . . .

All, right, I admit -- ownership gives me pleasure.
