That was the USA I've been looking for!!!
As I've said previously, I didn't expect wins against the Czech's or the Italians. So I wasn't at all surprised to see us lose to the Czech's. But I wanted to see a team USA that looked like they wanted to be out there. They looked great today. They attacked, they defended, they bled. They came oh so close to being the very first World Cup team to score a goal with only 9 players. Kudo's and we're very much in this thing now.
Can't talk about this game without mentioning the refs. The first red card was ludicrous. The second not as bad, but out of character. It seems as though the mafia may be alive and well and "pulling" for Italia. To hold Italy to a draw being a man down for the much of the game was spectacular. Keller was phenomenal. There was a Landon Donovan sighting. Hey, if we beat Ghana and the Italians beat the Czech's then we're moving on! I never thought it was possible. Last edited by SteelBlue; 06-18-2006 at 05:58 AM. |

ESPN just noted that the same ref that gave the US 2 redcards today was suspended for the 2002 World Cup for "irregularities" in his officiating. If he doesn't ref another game for 200 years it will still be too many. What a joke. The US was controlling that game until moron ref decided to make himself the focus of the match. I truly believe the US would have 3 points right now if he had have left things alone like he was supposed to. |

The Czech/Italy game is tougher to call. It could easily end in a draw which is death for us (we'd have to score 5 or 6 goals against Ghana). Coming into this tournament the Czech's would be favored over Italy. But Italy can certainly beat them. |
