When I first saw the subject line I thought of Vertigo. Great movie.

Exterior shots were in SF and Bodega Bay and a few other places in NoCal.

As a local, Vertigo is my favorite. Good local exterior shots and always lots of parking. Sort of like a dream SF.

The Birds is one of my least favorite Hitchcock movies. It's closer to today's non-thinking action flicks than to the psychological mystery/thrillers he made. Not to mention it's just hokey. Flocks of seagulls don't attack people. Maybe that's the point and I just never got that movie. The special effects for the time are very impressive, though.
