Dylan is cool, but I guess I would have to get pretty philosophical and rationalize one of his current reincarnations to put him in the category of "new." how about radiohead? OK Computer squeaks under the door, released in 1997, and pretty much defined a new direction for the band. For something more recent I might go with BSS, which is less interesting to me musically, but which is doing something very cool with the idea of a "rock band." they are really a rock collective.

My kids turned me on to Coldplay and I like them a lot now. If you listen to them long enough you can start to hear slight differences between each song.

I love Dylan, but as you pointed out, how can he be classified as new?

I think the thread was to focus on bands that have come out since Foo, so that would be around 1995. Radiohead has been around before that, so it would not qualify them. But I agree about radiohead.

My favorite recent "rock" band is Spoon by a mile.

Spoon is rad.

Also on SNL recently.

I wonder how NorCal is defining rock. I think he is referring to guitar driven pop rock, such as Foo. I dont think Spoon, being more an indy pop band, would fit that mold. But maybe it does. Either way, Spoon is great.

But neither have put enough out to be called best of the last 10-12 years.
