The Road for me had little to do with its post-apocalyptic setting, as modern life in many respects is emotionally post-apocalyptic as well. The parental drive for survival -- not so much human drive, but parental -- was very touching in that setting, just as it is in the world we live in.

Reading the reviews for "The Road" on amazon.com is highly entertaining. You can look at the dates of the reviews and pinpoint when Oprah started pimping it on her show. "This book is just soooooo depressing...."

I've changed my mind. I will not write a review of "The Road."

I will simply say it is a remarkable book.

Am I looking forward to the movie? I can't decide. But I'll see it.

I can't imagine how this book will translate onto the big screen. I am highly skeptical.

Mortenson was good in A History of Violence and Eastern Promises.

He's probably a good a choice as any.

Question is about the kid actor, and the rapport between the two.

The book is desultory. Will the movie be linear and view-friendly, or desultory and cryptic?

It's being directed by the guy who did "The Proposition". I didn't particularly like this film. Although I can see why someone might want to go to this director for this film. Hillcoat will need to do much, much better.

Perhaps the ideal director for this might be the combination of Jim Jarmusch and Peter Jackson.

This thread is incredibly lame. I can't/won't add anything more to it.
