I honestly don't know they would respond on CB. I haven't been allowed to see religion and politics categories for about a decade.

But that they would be jackasses, many of them, doesn't surprise me.

Having better bigs is a problem? Some folks don't understand how the game works. Many of those post on cougarboard.

This isn't necessarily a dumb post per se, but it misses a lot of the nuance of basketball, IMO. A team like Utah that likes to slow the game down wants the other team to always go deep into the shot clock. However, for a team playing BYU's offensive style, that is actually not the optimal thing. BYU's style of play is much better served by having a D that creates early turnovers or can get the other team to take an early bad shot instead of making the other team use most of the shot clock on every possession. Unfortunately for the last 2-3 years BYU hasn't had any good interior defenders who can block shots and allow the perimeter players to play more aggressively. We've also not had Jackson Emery/Abuou type players who are good at creating the perimeter turnovers either. Kaufusi's defense started to emerge the last ten games or so, and I think as a whole our interior defense will be a lot better this time. Also, having Fischer and Haws out there at the same time led to some bad defense. Winder was also hurt most of the year and would have helped. Nick Emery is not the defender his brother was, but he's supposed to be more than capable on that end.

yeah it's not about the shot clock, it's about the type of shot you force. You want the other team to shoot a low percentage shot or turn the ball over.

I really hated the zone of the year prior. So many wide open 3s they gave up.

Here's today's shining example of a football-centric cougarboard poster who doesn't really understand basketball but has strong opinions anyway:

"BYU's all time leading scorer is gone and who is going to take his place. Fischer is streaky, Collinsworth is amazing but no matter the improvement he isn't making up for Haws. Austin is an offensive drag, I wish he wasn't coming back. Judging from Davis and Aytes previous stints they aren't exactly all stars."

And a response from one of the posters over there who does understand the game:

"Dude remove Worthington and Andrus and add Austin and Davis. Tyler Haws was the best pure midrange shooter in the history of BYU. Part of the reason his scoring was so efficient is because of his free throw shooting. However, his passing was weak, his defense was absent and rebounding was ok. BYU will miss him, for sure, but there are other players who perhaps make the team a better team because they fill the stat sheet in a way that makes BYU less one dimensional and more difficult to stop on O and definitely more difficult to score on.
