About GC, it goes to show how much more important the choir will become in keeping out interest. I've lost all faith in Motab. I think there are some stake choirs that are better.
Your contempt for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir is laughable!

I'm with tooblue on this one. There is not a stake choir anywhere that is remotely comparable to MoTab. That's just hyperbole from Mike.

That's not saying that some variety wouldn't be nice. But the choir is very good at the type of music they do (LDS hymns).

It would be nice if the MoTab could actually sing one of their hymns within 50% of the printed tempo on the sheet music. Every song is a borderline death march.

I remember when the program was announced and thinking WOW, in fact writing it in my journal.
Thanks for the link. The Perpetual Education Fund is one of my favorite charity.

As one who gives "religiously" to the PEF I am very glad they have it. IMO they need a BYU Brazil and BYU Mexico within the next 10 years. I will be honest that I was a little disappointed that the church is spending a billion on downtown salt lake when they could have expanded and had a byu Brazil.

My personal opinion is that they should have made downtown slc into the MTC and used the MTC in provo to expand byu. Then the money they saved they should open up BYU brazil and not charge tuition

This is along the lines of my opinion. Motab is not a professional choir, with the equivalent of voice majors in the seats. More along the lines of enthusiastic amateurs. Even Snipe, who apparently has a choral experience, says before this current conductor took over, the choir was in disrepair, and that they still have a ways to go.

Eileen Farrell does a fair job with I know that my redeemer liveth. And the Mormon Tabernacle Choir has this going for it: they do sound like a good amateur choir, rather than a professional choir, which is (to me) a plus, since Messiah choruses have the feel of participation numbers rather than things you sit back and listen to.

When people don't stop and start at the same time, that's a huge annoyance. And it's the product of an amateur choir not practicing often and having to learn a large volume of music in a short time.

And the Provo ward with the Staehlis and Robinsons, those singers are better than your average Motab singer. I know, because I have attended.

I agree what was with "There is sunshine in my soul today" at conference... it felt like they were singing it at funeral
