Default LDS donate millions to fight gay marriage

http://www.heraldextra.com/content/view/280669/79/

Some interesting quotes:

Quote:
There are a few things that will get LDS Church members to open up their pocketbooks: a Mormon presidential candidate, tithing and gay marriage.
Ugh...

This also surprised me:

Quote:
"I suspect that when this is done, probably 80 percent of the money [from individuals] will be from Mormons," said Hansen, who describes her site as a neutral place to simply show who is donating. So far, the numbers show it's closer to 30 percent, but many areas have yet to report and many small donors haven't been catalogued yet.

system that overrides the will of the people. Oh, and humanitarian efforts. All those will engage Mormons. What a lousy church!

I looked at the website and found it interesting. The one thing that I found amusing was their effort to solicit information from the public as to who on the donation list is a member. The web site claims in the FAQ to be all about information, neutrality and transparency, but they make a point of telling readers that if they will identify members on the list the web site will guarantee the identity of the person making the identification. So much for transparency.

I wonder if some of those same people ever gave that much for fast offerings or other humanitarian efforts?

I think we would all do well to worry about our own donations to any of these efforts and not about the donations of others.

You mean in one fell swoop, or over the course of a lifetime?

Donations to charity are a zero sum game in any given year. It is an interesting question to me. I don't think it hurts to wonder what the hierarchy of donations should be. What would our leaders have us do?

1. Tithing
2. Fast offering
3. Perpetual Education Fund
.

.
100,000,000,000. Prop 8

I think your premise is flawed, particualrly on this issue.

So you think the church would say that Segways for Sealions would rate higher than Prop 8?
