Man, I loved New order. i saw them a few tours, including the epid Echo and the bunnymen/gene loves jezebel tour in 87, I think, as well as when they came to LA for Technique in 89.

I can still listen to their discs for hours. Low Life and PCL are some of my favorite discs of the 80s. Specifically, the song Love Vigilantes. It used to make me sad, and now it has renewed relevance with the war in Iraq and our servicemen being shipped out overseas.
Yes, Love Vigilantes is very relevant today. Probably my favorite New Order song.

I have both discs of Substance ready to go at all times in both my home and car. Low Life is terrific, but I think I prefer Power, Corruption and Lies.

It really is amazing how much more upbeat that band was after Ian Curtis passed away. I love Joy Division, but I guess we know who the killjoy was, eh?

I didnt like Joy Division anywhere near as much as New Order, although I still like their stuff. Unknown Pleasures was good, but I could never listen to it over and over.

If you listen to really early New Order, stuff--particularly Movement, but including Ceremony, Everything's Gone Green, etc....you can hear the Joy Division influence. Still very dark musically, surpressed vocals, and very underproduced.

Correct. Ceremony was actually written by Curtis before he died. My understanding was that it was going to be the title track of the album they had in the works. (I wonder if I actually taught you something there.)

Second, many of the synth bands have openly cited ABBA as an influence....Vince Clarke, Martin Gore, Bernard Sumner (new order). Erasure even released an EP called Abba-esque that contained remade ABBA tunes.

Did you see the play Mamma Mia? If you like ABBA, you will like Mamma Mia.
ABBA is awesome!?!? (shudder)

I don't wanna talk
If it makes you feel sad
And i understand
You've come to shake my hand
I apologize
If it makes you feel bad
Seeing me so tense
No self-confidence
But you see
The winner takes it all
The winner takes it all......
