I wonder what the French are saying about Zidane
His headbut was vicious. He needed to be kicked out of that game. What a disgrace. The crowd at the stadium obviously did not see it that way. The booed Italy for the rest of the match.
I think Zidane's ejection cost France the game. France was really dominating the game until he was thrown out. Italy looked like it had no energy left at all. They were losing all of the balls at the midfield. Zidane's header in overtime came within inches of going in. After his ejection, there was no way they were giong to score with a man down. What do the French think today? There is no way they can argue with the ejection, is there? Do they blame Zidane? Has his legacy been ruined there or are they more loyal to him than to the team? |

From what I've read, they are astounded and disappointed. They will love him, because of what he's done.
However, it did put a damper on their enthusiasm for his otherwise stellar play. Noah will give a more thorough report.

My buddy, who served in France, called a few families after the game.
All families were crying, all cursed the Italians, and all wished the ZZ would have head butted the dude in the face. |

Major dissapointment is what people are experiencing. Many of my staff noted that there was much weeping and wailing and gnashing of teeth last night. Many children cried themselves to sleep. The main sentiment I hear is frustration with how the championship was decided (on penatly kicks). They compare it to deciding the whole thing with a coin flip, which is not hard to understand if one is on the losing end. It would have been better if they had lost 3-0. But this is frustrating.
As for Zizou, they are very dissapointed. But they love him immensely, so I think this will blow over. Especially when we find out what exactly was said (which is what everyone wants to know), which I suspect was fairly offensive given his reaction. After that comes out, I bet we see an outpouring of sympathy and justification.

My guess is that the Italian player told him that French wine is inferior to Italian wine.
As for the game, boo hoo France. Of course, this is the only country that has lost 2 wars to a non-Roman Italian army, so why would anyone really be surprised by the outcome?

I believe he said about he had better sex with Zizou's wife than Zizou did.

One Paris-based group claims Materazzi called him a dirty terrorist.

does anyone else see irony in someone being called a terrorist, and then the guy attacking the other guy, basically sucker punching him?
"you really fly off the handle" "oh yeah? [punch]" Too bad Zidane didn't remember his mom's advice to have more class than the people around you. (I can only hope his mom taught him this). |

In watching replays, I swear the Italian guy gave Zidane a titty twister immediately prior to the headbut! |
