Mitt gets tagged with being a flip flopper. He's got nothing on Palin:

"We need to come to the defense of Southeast Alaska when proposals are on the table like the bridge, and not allow the spinmeisters [my edit - notably John McCain] to turn this project or any other into something that's so negative," Palin said in August 2006, according to the Ketchikan Daily News.

The Anchorage Daily News quoted her in October 2006 as saying she would continue state funding for the bridge. "The window is now, while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist," she said.

She changed her mind, her communications director said, when "she saw that Alaska was being perceived as taking from the country and not giving, and that impression bothered her and she wants to change it. … I think that Sarah Palin is someone who has the courage to reevaluate situations as they developed."

It looks to me like she caved to the ostensibly anti-Alaska spinmeisters, but in fine fashion has spun the whole thing into her being principled & willing to stand up to the corrupt politicians who were in the "strong position to assist" during her previous support_of_the_bridge phase.

It gets even more shallow:

Palin dropped support for the bridge when it became a national spectacle, but kept the money to be used on other things.

Alaskans are evidently bent at her claim in Ohio last week to have fought the project.

Please. We are smarter than this.

If you are going to make the case that Palin is not a reformer, you are going to have to start from the top and go down the list.

I can't tell how much of a reformer she really is, but the evidence is mounting she's a simple political chameleon, at best, and more seriously may have a corruption problem of her own.

Looks now like she's hired an attorney in TrooperGate.

The daughter pregnancy issue is really nothing, but it does add to the negative attention from the disingenuous posture on BTN and ongoing TrooperGate developments.

Question now becomes what are the chances McCain backs out on his VP choice. There's a solid, honorable excuse that she needs to pay attention to family matters.

I'm giving it a 40% chance, likely not going to happen this week. Gustav provides some cover for a day or two. McCain might head to LA himself to pitch in on the relief (that would be a diversion, of sorts). Interesting set of challenges for McCain & the GOP, right now. Certainly not insurmountable.

Of course, as we know from Bill Clinton's adventures, it's quite possible this all blows over and nobody really ends up caring much about it. The timing during the campaign adds plenty of spice.

I think this is all a big diversion. Someone probably has pictures of McCain and some other hottie with even more money than Cindy. LOL

Actually, I don't think the Dems haven't played any hands, yet, have they? (Besides fringe bloggers) This stuff is in the category of "stay out of the way and watch it unfold"

But the Dems would be negligent to not be preparing commercials impugning McCain's judgement. McCain's camp has proven adept at rapidly putting together ads. Obama's camp can take their time on this stuff.
