Enter Gary Crowton. Everyone thought he was that guy in Lavell's later years when we weren't meeting the expectations some fans had. Sorry for the ex-ute moment, but I never thought Crowton was going to be that great and probably jumped off his bandwagon before you did. This team simply did not have much talent on defense. I'm as upset as anyone for the poor effort against Arizona, but the talent on defense was horrid this year. Still, under Crowton this team wins 4-5 games.

Your point is valid but I abandoned Crowton in year One.

There are worse coaches.

I think Bronco is doing just what his bosses want. He's the apostle to the football program because that's his calling. Is there anything about this fellow that strikes anyone as anything but corporate in his mentality and practice? Moreover, as long as he plays this role his bosses, the Twelve, won't be predisposed to fire him whatever his W-L record. As at most respectable schools, the sports program becomes the beast that needs to be tamed at some point. But the one area where LDS rank and file show an iota of backbone and individuality is calling for BYU coaches' heads. As someone mentioned, if the constituents overwhelmingly wanted it, anything would be possible, women in the priesthood, gay marrieage, academic freedom at BYU.

Leach is good friends with Jack Daniels, it is rumored. He may have grown up LDS and graduated from BYU, but he is a very "eclectic" personality, defiinitely not of the fireside cloth.

Thus he'll never be BYU's coach.
