Default 2004 Infiniti G35

I'm looking at this one now.. I've read a lot of reviews on it, both good and bad. I'm leaning towards it... it's a beautiful car, it's sporty and quick, the engine definitely growls (I hope the loud engine won't bother me long term) It's Cougar Blue so the BYU license plates will look great, nice leather interior and a few other bells and whistles i really need, but are fun to have I guess. I have a 3 year 36k warranty so I feel good about that part of it.

One question I had was about the importance of the type of fuel. It calls for Premium gas. Is that absolutely necessary? If it is that's cool. I'll drive around 10 miles a day on most days so I'm not too concerned about it, but just wondered if putting in the premium as opposed to regular or mid-grade really helped the performance and maintenance of the car...

I've read they hold their value well and with proper maintenance they will last a really long time.. I'd rate Nissan on the bottom of the big 3 of the Japanese cars after Honda and Toyota, but if I could get a good 3 years out of it, it would be pretty fun.

The general rule is that if the owners manual calls for premium, use premium fuel. If it calls for regular, use regular.

The difference between premium and regular is the octane content. More octane doesn't mean more power (or less MPG) - what it means is that there is less chance of engine ping (small explosions in the cylinders that are not cause by the spark plugs). It happens less because the higher octane in premium causes the gas to burn slower.

IOW, you'll get lousy performance from your engine if you put regular in a car that needs premium. You'll get the same mileage with premium as regular, but you'll also save your engine.

Now you've shamed me and deservedly so.

I'll just show up sometime unannounced. That's more my style anyway.
