I love these BYU snowflakes that need their "safe space"

Of course they would not want to play teams where fans have open disdain for Mormons. Hey idiot, there are Mormon haters everywhere. Just some don't put it out in the open. (this is something that many young Mormons do not understand). It's better to be hated than ignored. If Gonzaga goes to the MWC, and we stay in the WCC, I'm seriously done with BYU basketball |

Refusing to go back because the conference has a bunch of backwater locations (with the exclusion of San Diego, Colorado Springs and Vegas) may be a good reason, and because revenue split in the MWC sucks. I would prefer to go to the AAC as opposed to the MWC, a geographically and time-challenged conference.

revenue sharing in the WCC doesn't suck?
The only good thing about the WCC is Gonzaga. 2nd best thing is that we don't have to share our football money. WCC is horrible, with all the games in the Pacific time zone. I don't want to watch games that start at 10pm CST. In high school gyms. No one gives a rat's ass about the WCC. I was listening to the Bill Simmons podcast the other day (something I used to do a lot, but then got sick of him). That day was the first time in a long time I listened to him. He was joking that the guys at The Ringer should become the coach at Pepperdine, that it's a a kind of giant sleeping. Fat chance. |

How other fans think and act is not a good reason for not going back. But giving up a lot of ESPN dollars from the football TV contract is going to make this hard to transition back however, since the financial difference wouldn't be trivial. And the MWC doesn't really have much of an incentive to take us back for the other sports if they can just take Gonzaga. So do we take a hit and do what's best for basketball with the hope that we'd be ok for football even with less TV money? There might be a scenario where it would work out, I suppose.

WCC will presumably worth A LOT less w/o Gonzaga. As in worth about nothing. So that's less money to BYU in the future. Gonzaga making deep runs in the NCAA - that would be gone, so all that money dries up for BYU.
BSU gets about $3 million per year in TV money from the MWC contract. https://www.mwcconnection.com/mounta...ucture-tv-deal BYU makes about 4.5 million. https://lawlessrepublic.com/2017/09/...ontract-money/ I don't think it's the $1.5 million that makes the big difference. I think BYU likes the idea of having more national exposure with more national games in football. But the team sucks. And the coach sucks. And we might be playing games on the Ocho in 2018. I really think BYU basketball languishes in the WCC. Sure we have games on the BYUTV, but no one is watching. There is no exposure there, only to die hards. You have the BYU vs. Gonzaga game and basically that's it, in terms of some national exposure. And with the football team having nothing to play for, no conference championship. No real pathway to NY6 bowl, much less the college football NC playoff. And no future pathway to P5. I think it's time to throw in the towel and get back in a conference. |

If the financial difference is that small then BYU probably ends up doing it.

Please make it the AAC. The MWC is just as irrelevant. I hate the MWC.

I like the AAC idea, especially for basketball. Although now that I think about it, the difference in TV revenue may not be the biggest financial hit. How much would be owe to schools we have to break scheduling deals with? If that's in the tens of millions, that makes it harder.

Seems like those things usually work out. Also seems like if we had a decent admin, we'd have thought of those things in advance.
I'm definitely getting to the point that I think we may need some fresh ideas in the AD position. Doubtful we can ever have that. Independent, strong thinking is not what BYU values or appreciates. |
