Default Interesting recruiting information on Haws, Wilcox and Sharp.

utebiquitious is actually really well connected with the Ute program, so I think he has some good insight on this one.

"Let me circle back to Sharp before closing this epistle. I spoke to a member of BYU's staff recently who expressed regret that they weren't active enough recruiting Sharp. He really thinks that Sharp's a Division I scholarship kid and cites the reasons we've already heard - good at virtually every aspect of the game and someone who is bound to be a high Division I player post mission.

By the way, this same person seems to think the recruiting for both Haws and Wilcox is still up in the air between Utah and BYU. Marty and Tyler Haws genuinely like and respect Boylen so Utah's making it a hard decision. My guess reading between the lines is that Haws may still be leaning BYU and Wilcox Utah but neither definitively.

One more by the way - the U and Y are battling for two more Utah County kids - both at Provo High. The two staffs really like Brandon Davies and another Collinsworth (I forget his first name). Davies may be a junior and is a 3/4. Collinsworth is a sophomore who plays as a 2/3 right now from what I'm told."

I went and watched my nephew's team play against Provo a couple of weeks back. I knew the buzz on on Davies and Collinsworth so I also wanted to take a look. I was very impressed with Collinsworth, in that he had a really good first step, handled the ball reasonably well, and had a well developed midrange game. He will need to work a bit on his defense and his strength (my nephew bullied him pretty good, but he is a 6'5 230 lb 2/3 who is he not going to bully in high school?) and that will come with age. He has the makings of a real good prospect...if he grows about 3 inches or more.

Davies I was unimpressed with. Provo's offense is decidedly vanilla and may therefore not have afforded him opportunities to handle the ball, show shooting skills or moves, so my experience may not be reflective of his entire skill set. But he did very little in the game outside of the paint and he appears to be an undersized (for the college level) 4/5 to me. Furthermore, he kept getting schooled in the post by a classic 6'3" center on simple quick moves. The athleticism is there, but the ball skills don't really appear to be. I have a hard time seeing him as anything other than a low level D-1 recruit.

Just my two cents.

I watched the Provo-Orem game on KJZZ a few weeks ago, saw both Collinsworth & Davies. I was impressed with both, although I'm always skeptical about High School ball...
