Default Note to future ambassadors

Certain behavior may be outside the bounds of propriety.

Israel recalls 'naked ambassador'

Israel has recalled its ambassador to El Salvador after he was found drunk and naked apart from bondage gear. Reports say he was able to identify himself to police only after a rubber ball had been removed from his mouth.
A foreign ministry official described Ambassador Tzuriel Refael's behaviour as an unprecedented embarrassment.

I love the line: "...he was able to identify himself to police only after a rubber ball had been removed from his mouth." That is awesome!

They take all the fun out of diplomacy these days. Next thing you know driving after you have had a few, killing a pedestrian and using diplomatic immunity wil be frowned upon. What is this world coming to?

That happened a few years back in D.C. when a Georgian diplomat was arrested and convicted for manslaughter after killing a woman in a DUI incident. Georgia lifted his immunity and he went to prison in the U.S.

Aside from espionade cases, I doubt the U.S. would ever maintain diplomatic immunity for someone you broke local laws, especially in egregious cases. We're even told to pay our parking tickets.

That's not to say other countries won't exercise that right (especially where diplomats have close family ties to those in charge). But doing such always has it's consequences.

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

That is the incident I was referring to.

So they really want you to pay your parking tickets now, huh? In my international law course our professor talked about how many he used to get when he was in Paris. There was a look of sentimentality in his eyes... not for the left bank, but for the parking tickets I think.
