Does anyone have a clue what this scripture means?
3 Nephi 1:14
14 Behold, I come unto my own, to fulfil all things which I have made known unto the children of men from the foundation of the world, and to do the will, both of the Father and of the Son—of the Father because of me, and of the Son because of my flesh. And behold, the time is at hand, and this night shall the sign be given. I have thought hard about this and can't come up with anything definitive about what the bold language after the hyphen means. Does anyone know? Thanks in advance.

There are so many possible interpretations. Here are some thoughts:
The will...of the Father because of me: The will of the Father is to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man. Therefore because the Father has spirit children, which of course includes Jeses Christ ("me"), that will became a plan and a huge part of that plan (Christ being born into mortality) was going to transpire within hours. The will...of the Son because of my flesh: The Son's will was to be our mediator with the Father and our atoning sacrifice, and our having such was required because of the flesh, because mankind in the flesh are carnal and fallen, thereby requiring an atoning sacrifice and a mediator in the name of justice. |
