...how long before we kill him?
There will be civil war, we will support the rebels, including a specials ops force to take Chavez himself. He is setting himself up to be the dictator of Venezuela. Suppressing free speech, changing the constitution to allow himself to be "elected" indefinitely. Nationalizing all industries. I think we need a 51st state. One with lots of oil. And soccer players. |

Venezuela is my colleague's next posting. He is trying everything he can to get out of it. I doubt he'll be successful.

Is he an indentured servant? Maybe he could get a civilian job. Might save his life.

You are kidding, right?
Civil wars usually don't work out too well for civilians. It might be a good idea for the U.S., but what about the Venezuelan civis? It seems like the U.S. has developed a history of undervaluing general order. If the people want to rise up against their government, we should let them make that choice for themselves. just my two bits. Quote:

We need more soccer players like Sam Cassell needs more ugly. What we really need are some better baseball players so we can win the WBC. I'm certain Venezuala could make a nice contribution in that area.

My thoughts exactly. Venezuela produces lots of solid baseball players, though we could probably find more in the Dominican Republic, but then we'd have US border problems with Haiti.
