Conference TV Contracts

Really an interesting article here, talking about the Big 12 TV contract, and comparing it to the Big 10 and the SEC.

● The Big 12 has an eight-year, $480 million deal with ABC/ESPN that lasts through 2016. The Big 12’s Fox Sports Net package is worth $78 million and goes through 2012.

● The SEC and ESPN have a 15-year, $2.25 billion agreement, giving ESPN and its family of networks rights to every SEC home game not selected by CBS. The SEC and CBS have a 15-year, $825 million agreement.

● The Big Ten and ESPN have a 10-year, $1 billion package. Also, the Big Ten and Fox Cable Networks have a 25-year, $2.8 billion deal with the Big Ten Network.

Compare this to the mtn contract, $120 million over 10 years.

BCS game money is just a small part of the overall picture of the haves vs. the have-nots.

Of course, I find it highly entertaining that A&M is getting screwed over by the Big 12 contract. They are the only Big 12 school to not be on any kind of TV (not even PPV) in September. The A&M AD won't allow PPV because he thinks it harms ticket sales.

It's misery to be an A&M fan. Something along the lines of being a UNLV football fan.
