Default BSU recipe for success

I have refused to watch BSU, except for its victory over the Sooners, so I am ill-informed over its recipe for success. My suspicion is that you have a dominant program, in a very weak league, which plays one big game per year, and is able to pull off a bowl victory through exceptional preparation, a measure of luck, and better athletes than one might suspect.

Does BSU have superior athletes to BYU? Once upon a time, it did not. Or is BSU simply better coached?

The convention wisdom seems to be BYU has inferior athletes but comparable coaching, and that BYU will therefore never compete at the highest level, but that Utah and TCU, and BSU will. IOW, we are condemned to a glass ceiling that nobody else is.

The best way to tell is to see how many players they put in the NFL.

I know the Cowboys have a cornerback from BSU--Scandrick.

My sense is that recently, BSU has put more guys into the NFL.

BSU, like Utah, can recruit the skill positions much better than BYU. And they are not shabby in the other positions as well. If BYU played BSU, I would expect the Broncos to win TCU-style.

BYU is a shadow of what it could be, with better management and vision.

What I would like to see is whether we are now putting less people into the NFL than ever before. Or if putting roughly the same number into the NFL, are they less notable (i.e. drafted lower, don't end up starting, much less becoming pro-bowlers).

Seems like it has been a while since we produced a starting NFL OLineman.

Where is Indy when you need him?

They just don't want to play on Sunday.
