5th time Hawaii has almost lost to a crappy team
If I were a pollster, I'd think twice before voting them higher than 12-15. At this point they should probably go to a BCS bowl of some sort, but I don't think there's any argument whatsoever for them to be in the championship game.

Did you see the phantom call where UW completed a first down and was mysteriously called for being beyond the line? That was a crappy call.

Hawaii is clearly a sub-par team. Had they played anybody, and I mean ANYBODY in the 25-50 range (I'm looking at YOU, Boise State), they would have lost. There's no way they are a top 12 team. But . . . they won all of their games. There's no way to argue around that one. By virtue of having managed to avoid a single loss, they have earned the right to receive one great big whopping one on New Year's at the hands of a team that is actually good. Sucks, but c'est la vie.

Traditionally, the two weeks that see the most movement in the polls are the poll after the first full weekend, and this poll. So of course Pete Carroll has spent the morning campaigning, because it worked for Mack Brown in 2004, worked for Nick Saban in 2003 and has worked other times too.
It is very possible that OSU and UGA will not go 1-2 by mere virtue of being 3-4 and not losing. Normally that is what you see in the voting process in a regular week, but today the pollsters have the prerogative to decide who they want squatting over their phantom trophy. |
