Default Observation about BYU fans

I noticed at church today that people were excited about the Utes win. Including all of the BYU fans.

It goes to show that BYU fans despise the Utes a lot less than Ute fans despise BYU.

It really is a strange phenomenon in a way. I don't think many Texas Longhorn fans are going to be rooting for OU.

The BCS is a common enemy. That being said, if you scan Cougarboard or Cougaruteforum your theory doesn't hold up. The're's a lot of misery about the Utes' win. I'm quite surprised by the candor. It seems a little demeaning to be hoping for Utah's failure and getting pleasure out of that after your team let everyone down so horribly. If BYU ever had a genuinely impressive accomplishment I'm not sure I'd be unhappy about it or try to diminish it.

How do you diminish it?

The only team BYU beat w/ a winning record was Air Force. After we had been promised "perfection."

In college football, the spoils go to the victors, and I'm sure in some quarters there is real dread that Utah is officially king of this mountain, and realizing that we are pinning our hopes on such stellar young men as Jacobsen and Rhen Brown and that kind of crap depresses the hell out of us.

With the exception of 2 BYU fans in our ward, all the other BYU fans (including a former player) were cheering for Utah. One of my BYU fan friends even made the assine comment that you can't be a good member of the LDS church and cheer for Utah. That is one of the reasons I couldn't have attended BYU for one day. Utah has their bigots; BYU has their idiots.

Unless Utah loses too much, we don't have the system in place to dethrone them, and our midlevel accomplishment of making it back to the Las Vegas Bowl pales in comparison to Utah's.

I kinda thought a National Championship was genuinely impressive.

How many non-Utah natives are in your ward?

Thd closer you get to the Wasatch Front, the more bitterness there is in Y fans.

Your belief that Utah hates BYU more than BYU hates Utah is only relative to your part of the world.

I am just jealous that you have BYU fans in your ward. We have a handful of Utes and then it's all Ole Miss, Southern Miss and Mississippi State. There are three other BYU alums in our ward: one is Canadian, one is Jordanian and one is American and none of them care about BYU sports.

Utah has busted the BCS, disrupted the conventional thinking of SEC superiority over everyone else (much less MWC)......and <drumroll>....no one cares.

There's no outcry.

I remember the support behind the Utes during the 1998 Final Four run, it was similar to the two BCS games. However your argument doesn't hold because BYU has not done anything of note in any major sport in 24 years. You have no idea how Utah fans would respond. And I hope you are not basing your sample on the message board crowd, which I guess makes up less than 1% of any team's fan base. Does your sample come from the glee you saw in October after the TCU win? Apples and oranges.
