Default Walk The Line

Now THAT was a cool movie. Joaquin Phoenix & Reese Witherspoon in probably the best movie that I've seen either of them in.

Phoenix does a very convincing portrayal of Johnny Cash. Man that was one messed up dude...and in several different ways; booze, drugs, women. The portrayal in the movie made him look not that bright even on his best days.

Witherspoon also does a very nice job as June Carter. June was not without her own problems & improprieties...stemming mainly from choosing the wrong men. Witherspoon was very convincing.

The music in the movie was striking. I'm not really a fan(at all) of country music but this stuff was pretty cool. I'm going to pick it up on dvd when it comes out and watch & listen to it on my surround sound. Both actors did their own vocals, BTW, and both sounded very good. Phoenix's vocals were outstanding.

So did anyone else get the chills in the scene where 'Johnny Cash' is talking about the death of his older brother, when he was a boy? In case you don't know, Joaquin is the younger brother of River Phoenix.

It made me think, the pain in his eyes was not acting.

I finally saw Walk the Line last night -- yeah, I'm slow -- and it was awesome. I saw Crash a few weeks ago and liked it, but I really think this blew that one away. Powerful all the way through. I really want to see Capote now to see what W S Hoffman did to win it, because Phoenix was outstanding, IMO. ute4ever was dead on about the bar scene.

I usually don't go crazy about a flick, but this one really appealed to me. If you're the one person slower than me at seeing movies, get this one when you have a chance.

Joaquin Phoenix is a weird guy, but I think he's a phenomenal actor.

I hope you aren't associating him with his character in Signs; for those of us who remember your first moniker photo on this site, weird is an understatement

I actually think Reese Witherspoon sounded a lot better than June Carter. She was awesome in this movie, as was Phoenix. I think Reese has more of a pop voice and it was more mainstream, where June Carter sounds really back woods and Folk.
