Default What is "love"?

I'm always curious when people tell me that they aren't in "love", and therefore can't stay with their partner.

This contrasts with many societies where arranged marriages are the norm, and the couples are perfectly happy.

I think American culture values self-fulfillment ("how does this person make ME feel?") whereas other cultures may value commitment ("how committed are we?").

I'll take commitment over love. Commitment endures. Love is fickle.

Are these two things really synonyms? Meaning that I am making a big to-do over nothing? That when someone says he is not in love, what he really means is that he doesn't feel he can commit? Maybe. But I don't think so.

Having dated a girl after her each of her 3 divorces, she and I went to couseling.

After much hard work, the councilor made me see what love was. A nice face and one heck of a great body for a woman in her late 30"s.
