There was a point to that book? I couldn't finish it. In fact, my rule of thumb in Russian novels or works is to read the first chapter, then skip to the last chapter. If you like those both, you finish it. If you don't you skip the middle.

In GA, I plodded through parts and figured if Russians were reading that stuff, we'd kill their commie asses in any war.

Here's a link to what it's about, other than the retraining camps.

The whole idea of a "ranking" like this is problematic and even kind of offensive and limiting. The three on the list I've read cover to cover are Anna Karenina, War and Peace and The Brothers Karamazov, and I've re-read passages from these books many times. I studied Crime and Punishmen in school but that was a kind of hurried and haphazard and grade-centered read. If was going to be locked into a cell for a very long time and could take only two books I might choose War and Peace and The Brothers Karamazov. If I could choose only one it would be a hard choice but I think I'd go with War and Peace. I think it's probably the greatest novel ever written. There are many other great Russian novels that are not listed here.

you missed an opportunity. You should have said that I condemned the idea of ranking them and then said War and Peace was probably the greatest novel ever written, committing the very offense I'd just criticized. I was trying to build your morale, and you missed the opportunity.

You make a lousy straight man.
Besides, I am more amused by your silly polls thabn I am by your inconsistencies, which I have become used to.
