I guarantee you more than twice as many people watched BYU in 2000 on TV than in 2007. Maybe more than triple. And we're a better team this year.

we were on ESPN 1/6th of the time we were in 2000, with Wed-Fri in our football future.

Again, irrationality bred by personal frustration. Recruiting is not being hurt, and if it is, it's extremely minimal.

I understand you're frustrated.

10x is still HUGE.

For the mtn games, it is obviously 5000x or something ridiculous. Even with satellite distribution, ti would be 500x.
I'm guessing my wanker is at least 50X the size of yours.

A person can say a lot of things. You tend not to back them up.

That said, I'm guessing not everything's bigger in Texas.

I don't buy Cougar fan's frustration with our lack of national exposure, hurting recruiting, blah, blah, blah.

Yes it sucks, that you can't see half the games, when you otherwise could have by purchasing Game Plan, but we've got as much national exposure now as we ever had for your casual channel flipper. Again, we'll be on national TV 6 times this year. And without ESPN full court, BYU basketball had 2-3 national broadcasts a year. We'll have about that many this year, plus a whole lot more if the deal ever gets done.

The TV deal may be hurting your fandom, but it's not hurting recruiting. That argument is BS.

If, and it's a big if, we can get the mtn. on satellite, it will be WAY better than what we used to have. I'm loving it right now, recognizing a huge chunk of MWC fans are getting the shaft.
The "casual channel flipper" doesn't even know what VS or CSTV is!
You are living in the Land of Oz if you don't think this current TV deal is seriously hurting BYU's exposure.

VS best two games this year were BYU-UCLA and Wisconsin-UNLV. They each got .6 and .4 ratings.

I found 2003 article that said ESPN avg 1.9 rating on Saturday games and 2.2 rating on Thursday games.

I think it's fair to say when Boise plays on ESPN, they are watched by 5 times more fans than when BYU plays on VS. "National" broadcast is meaningless. BYU playing on VS might not even attract more fans than when they had local coverage by Sports West.

...there's no doubt. We're trying to build something, that should be expected.

I'm having a hard time reconciling the fact that those bitching the loudest about the TV contract are bitching that we should go Independent.

I GUARANTEE you, if indy happened, these same people would be bitching the loudest about how stupid it was to go independent - it certainly would be.

By the way, your Thursday/Saturday ratings were helpful for all of 1 BSU game this year. Could you please find me some stats for Sunday night (against the NFL game) and Friday night (which is Friday night). That's when the other 4 BSU games are/will be shown on ESPN this year.

Even if the ratings match Thurs/Sat (which they won't), they are a far cry from 100X or 50X that Waters is claiming.

Even 2X or 3X isn't good enough, but again, we're trying to get twice the games on TV, all while keeping the games at reasonable times and dates.

If the mtn. works it will be the bomb. I'll do all I can to help make that a reality. Talking about going independent is stupid at best, nonproductive for sure.

yes. espn is almost synonomous with college football. nobody surfs up to cstv to find a game to watch, unless they are mwc fans, or univ. of delaware fans (who seem to be on there an awful lot).

Exactly. Vs. is 603 on DTV. That's even out beyond the premium channels and bordering on the XM music channels. Who goes out there?

Admittedly, unless I am looking for Spice or Adult PPV, I usually don't.

Perhaps that's our demographic.
