He is a Stanford fan flush with victory over Cal in the Big Game. You can't expect clear thinking about football right now. He would like to play Cal 150x in a row becasue he thinks Stanford will win them all right now.

That would make the W stronger than the E imo, although WA, UCLA, and Standford are currently down.

They could be moved around. His point is only to keep all traditional rivals in opposite divisions to allow them to meet for the championship from time to time.

I do not endorse his view, btw.

I am trying to figure out how you can have two campuses be about 15 miles apart from each other and be in different geographic divisions? Esp since they will both be playing their homes games in the same stadium next season.

Technically, Westwood is West of LA, so at least that portion would make some sense.

Like I said, the times they would meet in the championship would mean they played each other two weeks in a row? Who wants to get knocked out of the MNC picture, because you had to beat your rival two times in a row?

The same way the Jazz have been in the midwest and northwest divisions, and so forth: Becasue it works for scheduling and making money. No other reason necessary to ignore geography.

Taking up his battle, I think he would say that the beauthy of it is it owuld give, say, Stanford two chances to royally screw Cal in any given season.

I don't really think it makes that much sense. I was acutally just happy that he and his tailgate buddies were thinking about BYU (after having also considered BSU and Hawaii, they settled on BYU and Utah).

Is your Jazz example analagous?

SLC does not have 2 teams, only one. They can call it whatever they want.

It would be like the Giants in the NL West and A's in the AL East. Makes little sense.
