Hall will be the best DDRM (as opposed to honorably discharged) QB we've ever had.

If someone finds themselves in a situation where they think they are doing the bidding of others and fulfilling their expectations, it does take some nuts to say, "wait a minute, this isn't for me".

Back in the 60's you couldn't go home. I remember a friend of mine and I planned to meet up (phone) in a month after hitting the mission field and if we felt the same way, we were headed home via Viet Nam. Yep, the option to go in the Army was better than heading home.

I am greatful I got answers to my prayers and stayed.

However, if some young man doesn't get those answers, who am I to judge him and call him a quitter.

that's disrespectful. I prefer "partial-mission" and "returned partial-missionary".

I wonder why people assume he's a quitter. I don't judge him either way. But we had a handful of guys leave my mission early. I don't think any of them did so voluntarily.

So yes, I believe that which I spewed. Do you disagree with me?
I agree with you so much. Not only do I respect Hall for bucking the Mormon cultural expectation, but he was also man enough to still transfer (from ASU even) to the center of Mormondom after making that decision.

There is one place you can go where people will have your back should you choose to come home early or not go. That is the BYU athletic program.

I don't mean the coaches and admin., I mean the fans.

What percent of 19 year old Mormon males in the USA go on missions? 15%?

It was not that long ago that my stake had only one YM/YW on a mission. One.

Let's not kid ourselves. It's actually the kids that go that are bucking the trend and bucking the pressure.

Maybe the trend, but what pressure. I will admit I am not around 19 year olds much. However, I have had nephews who have gone in the last 5 years and I don't remember any of them talking about pressure to not go.

Utah may be different than the rest of the country.

Typically one's non-Mormon friends don't slap you on the back in congratulations.

They're bucking the trend, but definitely not bucking the Mormon pressure/expectation; no kidding necessary.
