Some football players never move more than a few strides on any play, and never touch the ball. Most of football's 3.5 hours is players standing around.

Football involves a lot more than that, and the toll of combat wears upon them.

With pulling and off tackle plays and traps, it would be hard for me to imagine very many plays where the players aren't active or involved in significant collisions.

This is such a stupid debate. There's no question the popularity of football far exceeds that of basketball.

There's also no question that a 'January Psychosis' - a playoff for football - would be more popular than March Madness.

A friend of mine is a chiropractor and is contracted with USU to adjust the football players there. His take is that a collision in football for linemen is the equivalent of the force of an automobile accident at 15-20 mph. If an offense runs 90 plays, the O-linemen, if they play every offensive down, would be involved in 90 car accidents in one game.

Because RB's are usually faster than linemen, the force of collisions would be that of an car accident at 20-25 mph. Running the ball 30 times a game, well, you get the picture.

Actually, if that's your measurement basketball is far more popular than football worldwide, as is baseball and of course the mega-popular sport worldwide, soccer. Like sloppy joes and root beer football is only popular in the United States, and especially in backwaters.
