Jabari who?

Is there another recruit who is top notch and considering BYU.

We still need talent upgrades but missed out.

you know what would be cool? If he did Duke, then went to the NBA, was rookie of the year, THEN decided to go on a mission.

This idea that just being a Mormon athlete is a huge thing for Mormons is overrated.

Best of luck to this kid. I mildly entertained a fantasy that included Jabari going on a mission, taking BYU to the Final Four, and then going #1 in the draft. But in the real world, seeing him play for Coach K is a pretty fantastic scenario for a pretty fantastic kid. I'm going to jump all over the Duke bandwagon next year.
hey dodgertood. go die in a fire.

BYU wasn't even a final finalist.

The kid made the right decision. Duke is a great school (which he'll see all of two semesters and probably just enough class to be eligible the second semester), he'll have great exposure and he'll be a superb ambassador for his church and beliefs.

Great call and I'm going to cheer him on next year and then hope he wears a Mavericks uniform.

The LDS Church isn't cool because cool people are in it. I don't get BYU fans following LDS athletes. I follow BYU athletes first.

I have secondary schools, but I have virtually no passion for those schools.

And having been a fan of the Running Rebels in the 1990's, I loathe Duke. Yes, I admit it is a fine academic institution but for a kid like Jabari, let's be real. He's there to prepare for the NBA. Simple as that.

If he plays for Duke and Duke wins a national championship, he's likely the first draft pick in the lottery. So that's what it's about. It's not about campus atmosphere, academics, but mostly about maximizing his contract in 2014.

The rich get richer. This is akin to cheering Mr. Slim in Mexico for identifying and buying another company that succeeds. Whooptidoo!.

For once, it would have been nice for something good to happen to BYU.

My two favorite athletes when I was a tender age: Danny White and Dale Murphy.

Neither went to BYU.

If Parker becomes a NBA star and he remains devout LDS, and I was 10 years old, would that mean something to me?

Hard to say. But it is theoretically possible he could be a lot of LDS kids' Dale Murphy.

I didn't know they were Mormon until after I became Mormon. I knew BYU athletes were Mormon.
