Therefore, in addition to postseason futility, have there been any saving graces during the regular season during the same timeframe?

SteelBlue provided a single answer. Others have refused to include wins over Utah in the same boat, so I guess OSU in '03 remains the lone exception.
It goes without saying that BYU's basketball program has slipped during the 21st century, actually it slipped before that, but we get the point.

BYU has defeated a number of ranked teams, such as UNM one year, now UNLV and AFA.

However, I'll grant the premise that we will only win a tournament game this year if we hit it on all cylinders. Didn't they predict BYU to finish last in conference this year or was that last year?

I'm pleased about the upward trajectory, hoping it continues but am mindful Utah could upset the cougars in the MC.

I don't remember beating the Utah teams that had deep tournament runs. Perhaps my memory is just fading. Certainly OSU was our biggest win against a team that had NCAA tournament success that same season.

Ok St. was clearly the best win and the Stanford win in 2002 was probably the 2nd best.

you seem to have this data availale at hand... Can you do the rest of the conference? You could leave out SDSU, CSU and WYO if it would take to long

I actually don't have the rest of the conference handily available in terms of game level data. If I get a chance I will try to write a program that does it in the near future.

How come the Utes don't have any stat gurus on these boards?

I hate to resort to stereotypes in answering my question.

Off the top of my head I can think of three times in the past ten years the utes beat teams ranked 1-2 in the nation from the ACC, Pac 10, and SEC. There were many victories over ranked teams. Off the top of my head ten of them are North Carolina, Stanford, Arizona, Arkansas, Michigan State, Alabama, Iowa State, Oregon, Oklahoma. All of the foregoing except Alabama were in post season. There were many others.

How's that for stats?

I'm so grateful for these Ute guys that hang around here. 1990's WAC/MWC basketball trivia is one of my favorite topics, and these guys do a great job keeping it fresh in my memory.
