The major problem with this BYU team
that good teams will exploit: BYU can't take it to the rim and draw fouls.
There is only one player on the team that is around the rim and draws fouls: Plaisted. The only other person on the team who has a mentality to attack the rim is Burgess. Unfortunately, he's just not particularly good at it. He will have his spots here and there. But beyond that, BYU is a finesse jump-shooting set-shot team that will live and die with their stroke, and not be able to manufacture points when they are tired and shooting poorly. This is where missing KY hurts. Things will not be nearly as smooth, in and out around the basket. If Murdock could attack the rim, then you would be seeing Plaisted getting off-ball dunks. |

If Cummard could stay on the floor long enough, he would also fit this description.

For most teams, the point guard is the guy that can penetrate and make this happen. We're limited in what we can do without a point guard. JT needs to spend more time inside, as well. I like him at the high post. We ought to try that a little more.

It's easy to crowd BYU's perimeter players (basically everybody on the team other than Plaisted) becaue you don't have to worry about getting beat off the bounce. That's a big problem against good, disciplined defensive teams. |
