Anyhow, there are lots of networks available for homeschool kids now, so they still play sports and do band and that kind of thing. I think there are much "healthier" homeschool options than there were back when Flash was a kid.
these networks are no doubt usually homogenous in both race and class.

Probably white and lower middle to middle class. What does that mean?

Religion rises inevitably from our apprehension of our own death. To give meaning to meaninglessness is the endless quest of all religion. When death becomes the center of our consciousness, then religion authentically begins. Of all religions that I know, the one that most vehemently and persuasively defies and denies the reality of death is the original Mormonism of the Prophet, Seer and Revelator, Joseph Smith.

The typical LDS teenager spends 10 hours or so a week at church sanctioned activities ... and that is not counting extra stuff. That's all I meant.

Seminary: 5 hours
Mutual: 1-2 hours
Church: 3 hours

Not to mention stake dances, etc.

These ones are more likely to keep their kids home all twelve years, and more likely to be highly judgmental of parents who let their kids go to secular schools. And after their kids finish the high school curriculum, they send them to ultra-conservative Bible colleges in hopes that they can hide from the real world a few years longer.

Your sister may not be one of the families Mike describes, but they're definitely out there.

Now, where the racism thing comes in, I have no idea. It's too bad we can't read the guy's paper, because I don't get that at all.
Then he should say "some homeschoolers", or even more accurately, a "small minority of homeschoolers". But that wouldn't get the same reaction, I guess.

The vast majority of homeschoolers I know do it because they think the public school system is a joke. There's another large segment of "publicschoolers" (myself included) who would do it if they felt like they were up to it.

Flash's parents are both certified teachers. In the public school district. The reason you list is why they pulled their kids out.

The school administration was somewhat unimpressed.

Exactly as the title of the thread says. Unbelief in the world and the education system.
