Default Star Trek (JJ Abrams)

Saw this last weekend.

I think this is a very good film in terms of popcorn entertainment. Acting is good, special effects good, writing good.

And that's no small feat, given how bad some Star Trek films were.

One of the curious things about the film was that I was perhaps more emotionally drawn in during the opening scene than I was later in the film. That usually doesn't happen.

What might be missing from this film is that metaphysical moment about the nature of our existences--the moral dilemma--this is not that kind of film. And I think Star Treks suffers a little bit without that.

Mind you, I'm not a trekkie. But if you had told me when I was a kid that in the future they would make new Star Wars films and a new Star Trek film, and that the SW films would blow, and the ST film would be good--I wouldn't have wanted to believe you.

So I sign out this review with the immortal words:

KKKKKHHHHHHAAAAAAAAANNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!!
