Default Pickup lingo

I've heard a new one recently. "Wolf". It is said to indicate to a teammate dribbling the basketball, that an opposing player is behind, trying to steal the ball.

This is much better than "Behind you!" as is usually said.

Have you all heard this?

I was in fuego today. It was fun. I hit 3 or 4 3's and also a couple/three jumpers in the last game. The first jumper was a drive to the right, pick up dribble, spin to my left, elevate, jumper. From about 16ft. I've never attempted a shot like that I don't think, before. And I hit it. It was very TMac-like.

(the reason hitting today felt good is because I have really played poorly for a few weeks).

I play city league with a guy that yells "Wolf" everytime involving the situation you mentioned.

I had never heard it before that.

I thought it had something to do with a former poster who is enrolled at Ricks.

My question about your game would be did you touch the rim?

I stayed as far away from the rim as possible.

Wolf has long been a prison slang for a homosexual.

So my guess is that it is now being co-opted in the hop-hop or basketball circles to identify a person who is approaching from behind.

Hip-hop circles already took the word punk and its connotation of subserviance from prison culture. Why not wolf?

Wouldn't yelling "UteStar" make more sense.

Only if there is penetration.

If the guy is simply setting a screen, then no.

My understanding is that "setting a screen" is prison lingo for penetration. Am I mistaken?
