That just happened to me. A friend was called to be the Bishop of my ward. I'm already thinking it is kind of weird to call him "Bishop." And wondering if we are going to be much more formal now.

I think overall it is valuable, because maybe the Bishop's ear is a bit more sympathetic. Or has the potential to be. Not that the last bishop wasn't sympathetic.
